The road can be weary
I would like to give credit to London McCrea for making the All West River team from last week’s tournament in South Dakota. London, along with Brayden Keller-Decoteau, joined this group, so congratulations to these two players.
Conference play got off on a rocky road. The Lady Wolves spent close to 14 hours on the road to play two games. With weather, and playing almost the northernmost team followed by the southernmost team in conference on back-to-back days, it proved to be a very daunting task.
On night one, Moorcroft came out strong against a pesky Big Horn team. Lani Gill led the way with 13 pts., 2 assists, 3 steals and 3 rebounds. The team forced 20 turnovers, 12 of which were steals.
The focus of the team continues to be continuity, and this gets better each day. There is no replacement for experience, so individual growth after practices has to be a desire, and they’re taking advantage of this time. Ultimately the Lady Wolves fell 64-32.
A short memory and potentially weary legs brought the girls to day two of this long adventure. Pine Bluffs start two girls over 6 foot tall, which is not something they have had to endure every game.
After the first quarter of play, the score was 14-7 Hornets, but the long hours on the road seemed to be too much for the Lady Wolves mentally as the score read 64-13.
The gelling of the team is better with each game, and to build on the positives thus far will not have to wait long. Moorcroft plays host to the Diggers of Lead-Deadwood on Tuesday night, followed by home games versus Tongue River on Friday, and Wright on Saturday.
The game on Saturday is the annual Battle Against Cancer game, so please come and support those who have been affected by this unbiased villain.
