The Voice of the Community Since 1909, Serving Moorcroft and Pine Haven, Wyoming
This week of the high school basketball season brought on the West River Tournament, and placed Moorcroft in Newell on Tuesday night to play against the host. It was a hard-fought game, and ultimately the Lady Wolves fell 62 -51.
Moorcroft was led by London McCrea with 26 points, six steals and five rebounds. Hailey Blakeman also had that big game mentioned last week, scoring a double-double; 10 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists with 2 steals.
Basketball is a team sport, however, and this game brought our second highest in points scored (51), assists (11), steals (19) and a high of 41 rebounds.
The loss on Tuesday night placed the Lady Wolves in the consolation side of the bracket and pitted them against the Tigers of New Underwood. There are ebbs and flows in basketball, and Friday night was no different.
The “Mountain” to climb was rebounding against a 6’2 post, and finding a rhythm in shooting. The score was tied 10-10 after the first period, but the Tigers blew the game open scoring 15 in the second quarter.
Inevitably, the Lady Wolves succumbed to a 45-20 loss. Learning to face adverse situations, setting in game goals and battling together trying to meet these goals is a true measure of success. These girls are resilient, and never cease to impress with these attributes.
As a coach and staff we could not be any more proud of what these girls have accomplished up until this point in their young season. These girls are something special and are truly tenacious; it is a blessing to be a part of this group.
Striving to be better in preparing them for what each game will bring is our focus, and this was probably the biggest piece of adversity they had to face in the New Underwood game.
As we enter conference play this Friday and Saturday my focus is leaving no doubt by continuing to zero in on the concepts offensively, along with solidifying each player’s role defensively. All the Glory.
