Moorcroft Police Report

Jan. 6-12

On Jan. 6, an individual came to the police station to request officers to watch their property while they were out of town. Officers checked on the property while on patrol. Nothing further.

On Jan. 6, an officer was dispatched to a residence for a welfare check due to concerning suicidal statements from an individual. After speaking with them, the individual clarified that they did not intend to harm themselves but were feeling down due to health and life issues. The officer advised they would contact the Department of Family Services for potential assistance. Nothing further.

On Jan. 7, an officer showed up on seen to assist the Moorcroft Ambulance service with an individual who had dislocated their shoulder. Nothing further.

On Jan. 7, an officer was dispatched to a residence for a civil stand-by to assist a landlord in serving an eviction notice. The individuals did not answer the door, so the notice was left on the door for them. Nothing further.

On Jan. 8, an officer tagged a camper for towing that had been abandoned at an intersection in town. The following day, the towing company retrieved the camper. When the owner came in searching for it, they were informed that it had been towed and advised them to contact the towing company for further information. Nothing further.

On Jan. 10, an officer was contacted by dispatch regarding a welfare check request. The caller reported seeing two individuals in a bar purchasing alcohol and mentioned that they were on probation and facing eviction. The officer checked the Wyoming probation list but found no individuals listed, and dispatch had no record either. Given the lack of specific concerns for their well-being, the officer had limited options for investigation. The officer drove past the residence and noticed that no lights were on and there were no apparent signs of disturbance. Nothing further.

On Jan. 10, an officer assisted an individual with obtaining emergency funds for gas. Nothing further.

On Jan. 11, an officer was contacted by dispatch regarding an individual outside the police station who claimed to need assistance with their car. Upon meeting with the individual, the officer learned that they had been in an accident in Gillette and received a citation for it. The individual also mentioned that the rental company had deactivated their fuel card, and they did not have access to their bank accounts. They believed that the rental company was intentionally interfering with the car’s electronics, which they felt was causing difficulties in driving and contributed to the accident. The individual was convinced that the rental company was messing with the car’s electronics in an attempt to frame them for gang-related activities. The officer listened to the individual’s concerns and advised them to contact the rental company for assistance. The individual did not want to talk to the rental company and wanted a report filed. The officer completed the report and informed the individual that it would be available if needed.
