Moorcroft Wolves boys’ basketball team displayed resilience and growth at the Foothills Classic tournament in Wind River over the weekend. Although the Wolves finished 1-3, the young squad showcased promising potential as they battled through each matchup.
Against Big Piney, standout performances included Brayden Keller-DeCoteau with 22 points, Will Ripley with 10, and Hayden Amende contributing 6. In the game against Greybull, Ripley and Amende led the charge with 7 points each, while Tanner Hatling added 5.
The Wolves claimed their lone victory of the tournament against the host team, Wind River. Tanner Hatling had a breakout performance, scoring 17 points, including three clutch three-pointers. Brayden Keller-DeCoteau added 13 points, and Traven Huesby contributed 7 to secure the win.
Coaches Kalyn Fruits and Michael Peterson remain optimistic about the team’s potential. “This team is young overall, with only three seniors and one junior. The younger players are gaining significant varsity experience, with some freshmen even starting. Once they adjust to the speed of varsity games and gain more experience, this team will surprise a lot of people,” Fruits said.
The Wolves will aim to build on their progress when they travel to Hulett to take on the Red Devils on Jan. 9.
