Officials alert homeowners to changing EPA regulations
By
Many residents of Pine Haven and Moorcroft have received letters stating that their water lines are made of an unknown material. Lead pipes are the main concern, and the letters also mention the harmful effects that can be caused by lead.
Pine Haven Mayor Karla Brandenberg talked about how the Environmental Protection Agency is trying to get rid of lead in water lines.
Brandenberg warns that, “If you don’t answer them at all, they’re going to assume you have lead, then you will have to prove you don’t have lead in your house.”
The municipal water management for the Town of Pine Haven is maintained by Duaine Faucett, Water Guy LLC. In a statement on the Water Guy LLC Facebook page, he assures people that they have yet to see lead in the lines they work on.
In Moorcroft’s houses, water management is under the purview of Publics Works Director Scott Green. Green stated, “We are looking for the silver pipe, which is galvanized, or a darker color, which could possibly be lead.”
Moorcroft Mayor Ben Glenn stated, “This is a federally mandated deal from the government.” When asked what happens when the town’s lines are lead free and a residence’s lines are lead, Glenn stated that, “He has asked that several times.”
