Window dressing

Council looks to replace old and broken blinds in the MTC

Moorcroft has had trouble bringing aesthetic aspects of the Moorcroft Town Center up to par over the years and one such problem that continually seems to fall through the cracks is the window treatments. Those driving by or walking into the buildings may notice the old blinds that are sun rotted, stained and broken.

Councilwoman Heidi Humpal has requested Public Works Director Scott Green to investigate this situation at the Little Angels Daycare, which has been in the MTC for several years.

Green and Clerk/Treasurer Jesse Connally later read through the contract between Moorcroft and the daycare, finding the business signed for the room "as is".

Humpal addressed the situation again at last week's meeting, saying, "I have a hard time with that. We did have a different public works director at the time, who was aware the blinds did not work correctly and [the daycare] was told they would get fixed."

She stated the need to make this "right" by purchasing and installing new blinds in the front room.

"Bear Lodge has been in the same situation for many years." Nancy Feehan warned councilmembers, saying the rehab rooms' window treatments "look crappy" as well and the town has not replaced the blinds in this or any other rental space in the MTC. "I don't know that we want to make a precedence; if we do it for one, maybe we'll have to do it for the others."

However, Mayor Ben Glenn opposed this thought, saying, "Maybe it's time we should." He searched the cost of window treatments online and was impressed with the low cost options available, advising his contemporaries that the endeavor throughout could cost less than $300 per room.

Glenn asked Green to return to the council later with a price per blind for the type he had searched, saying, "I think this will work in 99% of the rooms so this is the blind I would like to use."
