The Voice of the Community Since 1909, Serving Moorcroft and Pine Haven, Wyoming
Moorcroft welcomes new Officer Hunter Blaylock. The rookie is currently working through the third week of his 16 weeks of instruction with his field training officer (FTO) and is enjoying the experience.
Deeply influenced by his family of veterans and law enforcement, the 22-year-old from the Glenrock/Douglas area has wanted to be a policeman for most of his life, saying, "It's been in my blood since I was little."
Blaylock feels confident in his integrity. "I can see right from wrong," he says, and his family supports him in this endeavor, building a strong foundation from which he reaches to become a good cop.
He also appreciates the tutelage of his mentors, Officers Katie Plum and Trayton Dawson as well as Chief Bill Bryant, saying, "I look forward to learning from all three of them."
The military, specifically military police (MP), was a serious option for a time, according to the officer.
"If I hadn't gotten a cop job, I was looking heavily into going into the military," he says.
He was so certain of his future that he attended college in Torrington to better understand what it means to be a policeman, whether civilian or military.
Blaylock hopes to make a difference as a first responder.
"You see people on their bad days and their good days and I just want to be that bright spot," he says. He has not seen this yet as it is only his third week, "We're still getting the tires rolling, but it won't be long."
Blaylock has lived in Moorcroft for a while before seeking a position with the police department and says he likes the town's feeling of community.
"It kind of feels like home to me," he says.
He wants to remain in Moorcroft for the foreseeable future, he says, "I look forward to creating a long tenure here."
When Blaylock retires from law enforcement, wherever it takes him, "I just want to look back and say I made a change in someone's life."
