As autumn makes itself at home with chilly weather and changing colors and the land goes dormant for the coming winter, Moorcroft’s Public Works Department is busy preparing the town for the coming cold. The crewmen have been blowing out the water from the sprinkler systems as well as the bathrooms in the four municipal parks.
There is also the final fertilizing of said common areas for the season and a check of the winter equipment before snowfall.
“It’s a two- to three-week process,” said department director Scott Green.
The crew has already begun the process with closing the sprinkler system and Green expects to complete the winterization of the town within the next couple of weeks. “I usually try to go through the end of September and then shut everything down.”
While each individual job does not take too long, adding this to the everyday work with the department a man down, everything just takes longer.
“It’s a challenge,” smiles the director.
The winter schedule includes plowing and picking up snow and preparing the equipment for summer, maintaining the municipal buildings including town hall, Moorcroft Town Center (MTC) and the other building owned by the town. “There’s plenty to do.”
Green’s department received the new snow plow this week, “Once we get snow on the ground, we look forward to being out there.”
