What's happening at the Moorcroft Branch Library

Banned Book Week is September 22-28, 2024! Banned Books Week began in 1982 in response to a sudden increase in challenges to books in libraries, bookstores and schools and draws national attention to the harm of censorship.

The annual event brings together book lovers of all types – librarians, educators, authors, publishers, booksellers and readers - in shared support of free and open access to information and the freedom to seek and express ideas.

In 2023, the American Library Association's Office for Intellectual Freedom documented 4,240 unique book titles targeted for censorship as well as 1247 demands to censor library books, materials and resources, which is the highest level documented in more than 20 years of tracking.

The Banned Books Week theme for 2024 is "Freed Between the Lines." Freedom can be found in the pages of a book; however, book bans and censorship threaten that freedom.

During Banned Books Week 2024 and every day, we encourage you to share your love of the right to read and the freedom found in books. Let's be Freed Between the Lines! Stop in and see our display of books that have been previously banned or censored.
