Officer commended for life-saving action

First on the scene at an accident, Plum's quick thinking credited for positive outcome

Moorcroft police officer Katie Plum was awarded a letter of commendation and a certificate for meritorious service from Police Chief Bill Bryant and the Moorcroft Town Council at last Wednesday's meeting for her "quick thinking and calm demeanor" on Thursday, August 29, when she preceded EMS to a distress call on Yellowstone Avenue.

A man was in the passenger seat of a vehicle, bleeding from a deep cut on his arm and unable to stop the flow with direct pressure. After surveying the situation, the officer applied a tourniquet, staunching the bleeding until arrival of EMS, when they took over the scene.

Bryant stated, "Your training and experience were a benefit to the subject and a great example for the officers of this department."
