A little wind could not stop Moorcroft's town council, the family of former mayor Dick Claar and others from ceremoniously breaking ground on the Noonan Park splash pad last Wednesday afternoon.
This addition will be named after former mayor Dick Claar, who persevered throughout his term to see this feature established and open to families throughout Moorcroft and beyond.
The actual construction will likely begin in March of 2025, according to local contractor Ben Glenn of Glenn Construction. Glenn received the contract as lowest bidder with a proposal of $433,609.50.
After years of preparing and working with the state, the council's spokesman, Mayor Ben Glenn assures residents that the waterworks in the play area will be covered by the grant of $504,000 with the town's 50% match of $252,000 covered by the SPOT (penny tax) return.
The extra cost of $18,000 above the grant funding to complete the installation will also be paid by the SPOT, according to the mayor.
