Moorcroft prepares to break ground on splash pad

Shortly after the removal of the Moorcroft pool around a decade ago, the council listened to the concerns of town residents regarding the need to provide local children with some type of community water play space.

At first, the discussion comprised of ways to have another pool, but the lack of interest in the former pool was considered an issue for any future build due to cost. Later, splash pads of varying types and sizes came into the picture.

Many municipalities that could not afford or did not have the population to warrant an actual swimming pool began installing water features that were aesthetically and financially attractive as well as fun. These features are customizable and the state helps with grants to pay for planning and installation.

After years of prioritizing the needed replacement of outdated infrastructure, this council has decided to move forward to the realization of a splash pad for Moorcroft kids. They have discussed the installation site as well as the style and size of the feature, applied and gained state funding and researched realistic methods of supporting water lines within the deficient soil in the chosen square.

The contracts have recently been signed for construction and the governing body will be setting banners at an official groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday evening, August 28, at 5 p.m. celebrating the final steps of this long-awaited project.
