First responders pull victim from vehicle in three minutes
The Moorcroft Volunteer Fire Department responded to an accident on the west end of the I-90 construction site a few weeks ago and, after examining the time the crew took to address the situation, Fire Chief Jeff Holberg as well as the town council commended them for their swift and effective response to the call.
According to the chief, the acceptable amount of time from the call to extrication is approximately 12 minutes – these well-trained volunteers had the victim free from the vehicle in three. Holberg later called their work, “impeccable”.
They got from the fire hall to the scene, immediately assessed the situation, cut away two doors and extricated the injured party.
“It was three minutes on scene to open that car up and get the victim ready to load,” Holberg said.
“That’s the quality of people we have in town,” said Holberg, “But it also shows that the training we send people to is effective.”
He also advocated the local training Moorcroft and Pine Haven conduct regularly as being a vital component of this type of effectiveness, saying, “I don’t know anybody who can match that anywhere; that’s incredible.”
