Diehl’s Market owner Emanual Chaffee was not sure that he could carry on the Rib Fest during Rally this year due to the departure of the Moorcroft Area Cahmber of Commerce (MACC) volunteers from the event, but Wednesday dawned to a diligent effort by eight of his staff members and Chaffee himself to see the Rib Fest a success.
Chaffee had smoked 100 racks of ribs, but the turn out for the picnic was about half that of last year, leaving around 50 racks to be sold over the next few days from the store. The event organizer figures the drop in the number of bikes through town affected sales to an extent and the Camporee travelers simply passed through town without stopping.
But the locals were the stars, Chaffee says, “We see them come back every year.”
They have historically enjoy dropping in for the good eats and socializing and were a significant part of the day.
He plans to add Ribfest to the Sturgis Calendar of Events next year so people will be able to plan for the event. Yes, Chaffee says, he has every intention of continuing the Rib Fest: “That’s our goal, to create something in Moorcroft for Rally.”
