Finally, a full house

Town of Moorcroft rounds out clerk team

Kathy Johnson has joined Clerk/Treasurer Jesse Connally and her immediate associate, Deputy Clerk Samantha Blakeman in the offices of Moorcroft's Town Hall and police department.

Johnson grew up in Moorcroft and has family in town.

"My grandmother [Emily Griffith] lives here and Ben Glenn is my uncle," she says.

The mother of a seven-year0old daughter who attends Moorcroft's elementary school recently graduated from Gillette Community College with a business degree.

"I thought it was the perfect opportunity for me. I just have a puppy and a baby at home so I can work my schedule around the two."

Though Monday was her first day, Johnson feels comfortable in her new position, "It's something I can definitely do and get a grasp on."

"I'm on the police department (PD) side and I will help where I can help. I'm enjoying the PD so far, I haven't done much on the other side," she says.

Johnson hopes to "find a place" for herself in this position.

"I really wasn't sure where I was going after college... and I felt this was going be a good fit, some where I could grow and learn some new things and maybe even share some things I've learned," she says.

The newest deputy clerk has not talked much with her uncle, who happens to be the mayor, about her new position.

"I got the call and then I went on vacation so I haven't gotten to see anybody, really," she says.

She hopes to find a place here, "where I can still participate in family things, being able to go to my kids' graduation or awards ceremonies...I think being here, in town, is something I'm really hoping for."
