4-H club and library team up to introduce seed library

Give a little, take a little at the county's newly installed seed library.

If you have an excess of garden seeds, consider donating them. If you have knowledge of how to make them grow to abundance, consider sharing it.

And if you could benefit from either seeds or know-how, you can visit the Moorcroft Branch Library to make use of this new community resource, introduced in conjunction with the No Goats No Glory 4-H Club.

The seed library is an effort to provide donated seeds and local knowledge to people who are interested in the ability to grow their own food at home, says Tanja Miller, club leader.

"The Moorcroft Branch Library has a large seed catalog available for No Goats No Glory 4H Club members to collect, organize and distribute seeds to the community," she says.

"Community members that have seeds, time, or education to add to the Seed Library are encouraged to contact No Goats No Glory 4H Club Leaders or library staff. Donations to the Seed Library can be made in the form of seeds or even monetary donations to be left at the library."

The library is off to a great start already thanks to a sizeable donation from the grandchildren of Albert and Rita Pickerd, who for many years owned and operated Pickerds Greenhouse in Sundance.

The library's first 200 seed packets were donated in memory of the Pickerds.

"This community service project is intended to be long term and we are excited to see what it may grow into with the help of our generous community," says Miller.
