Etched in Time Park faces issues

Council works to tackle drainage problem and water hazard

The deteriorating condition of Pine Haven's Etched in Time Park was the center, again, of discussion at last week's council workshop.

The park, under the auspices of the Pine Haven Beautification Committee, was established more than a decade ago with many volunteers sharing in the vision of a park with the names of individuals and families who have made a difference on faced brick and a water feature running beneath a small bridge before falling into a concrete pool.

As time has moved on, the waterway, specifically the pool, has been found to occasionally run over the "banks", causing drainage issues on the land to the northeast.

The pool is also considered a safety hazard to youngsters who may visit and play near the edge as no guard rail or grate is in place to protect one from falling into the water if unattended. The waterfall at the southwest end of the feature as well as the stream are not maintained either, leading to the entire feature falling into disrepair.

After the committee meets on Wednesday, June 12, the council will decide how to correct the water feature, which could include eliminating it. The town will be putting new chips in the park to freshen it up and weed the area as well.
