Hiking through the summer

Keyhole State Park is gearing up for summer with several perennial events, this year’s calendar is called “Hiking Through Summer”. Dedicated to improving and expanding the trail system within its boundaries, the park celebrates and raises awareness of these trails with a focus on hiking them throughout the summer this year.

Interpretive guides have set out eight hikes from May through August, each path will entertain and educate with their own unique attributes. May 23, at 6:30 p.m., also known as the evening of the Flower Full Moon is the date of the first trek and it starts from the Coulter Bay Cliff shelter.

The Kickoff to Summer hike also begins at the Coulter Bay shelter on Memorial Day Weekend and will have a “Hiking Into Summer” theme. This day walk will be followed by a Kickoff to Summer hike in the evening. There are other hikes for people with varied interests including guided nature hikes, a night hike and a dog hike.

Woman-specific rambles will be offered as well, providing women a special opportunity to enjoy nature and spending time with each other through a fun shared experience. Two of these options will be hosted along the Cottonwood Trail and Coutler Bay Rec Trail respectively, on July 20 and August 16.
