Early on Thursday morning, May 16, a black Dodge Ram 1500 was traveling south on Carr Road, south of the railroad tracks. The vehicle left the road as it approached Rush Creek, rolling at least one time over the three culverts on the east side of the lane before coming to rest on the driver's side in the ravine.
The accident was reported by a passer-by going to work at approximately 4 a.m. and Moorcroft chief of police Bill Bryant responded by 4:30 a.m. to find the driver had abandoned the pickup and was not found at the scene, though Bryant discovered blood traces leaving the gully.
Bryant could not actively climb onto the pickup truck before it was pulled back onto all four wheels due to the precarious position in which it landed, but immediately after the vehicle resumed an upright position, he examined the interior and particularly the baby seat on the rear bench, which turned out to be empty.
Though the chief was unwilling to identify the vehicle's owner at the time, he did say he "knows who it is". Bryant suspects alcohol to be a possible contributing factor in this accident.
