The Voice of the Community Since 1909, Serving Moorcroft and Pine Haven, Wyoming

What's happening at the Moorcroft Branch Library

Join us Friday, May 17, for a LEGO Maker Day! All ages are welcome to come in anytime from 1-3 p.m. for various challenges along with free play and all supplies are provided.

We had several families join us last time who worked together along with individuals who worked independently. June 21 will be the next LEGO event.

On Tuesday, May 21, librarians from across Wyoming will join first graders in various activities to promote a love of reading as part of the annual Wyoming Reads event. John Jorgensen and his children started with one school in 1996 to honor the memory of Sue Jorgensen and by 1999, they were providing a book to all Natrona County first graders.

In 2006, the program encompassed the entire state as the Governor declared Wyoming Literacy Day in conjunction with the “Wyoming Reads” event.

In Crook County, all first graders will meet at Devil’s Tower, along with librarians from Hulett, Sundance and Moorcroft.  Attendees will hike around the monument and enjoy a picnic lunch.

The students will then be entertained by a Reader’s Theater performed by the librarians and each student will take home a new book courtesy of the Sue Jorgensen Library Foundation.

The final session of our Pie and Planning series is Tuesday, May 21, at 1 p.m. Richard Erb, P.C. will discuss Advance Directives, Power of Attorney versus Release of Information, final wishes planning and preserving essential documents.

Our final Afterschool Activity of the 2023-2024 school year will be on Wednesday, May 22. This school year, we have served 569 students.

We have cut computer activities from our program, this year and the majority of the attendees have adjusted well to this change. The youth have enjoyed the maker activities the most and we plan for some exciting challenges next year, such as a monster maker day in October and Valentine boxes in February.

The Circle of Light Photo Project is on display until May 24. Stop in or call (307) 756-3232 for more information or to make reservations for upcoming events.
