Pine Haven prepares to reincorporate utility lines
KO Construction is getting closer to an acceptable project completion on the C-Bar subdivision and Pine Haven Mayor Karla Brandenburg looks forward to reincorporating municipal waterlines.
“We want to flush and we want to check our pressure and we need to get that done fairly soon,” she said.
When The Water Guy, Duaine Fawcett attempted to pressure test the lines running through C-Bar a few weeks ago, the air in the lines that had gained entrance through myriad breaks by previous construction work on site. These caused the test to fail.
However, KO agreed to install a vent on the southwest roadway to ensure better results.
The sewer lines have passed the test showing that work has not crushed the pipes.
The crews have been working on another problem: the manholes.
“The previous crews didn’t put the manhole pieces together properly, so KO has to dig a number of them back up and correct them. They’re not high enough and they have too many extensions so you can’t get down in them. They must have more barrel and less extension or something like that,” Councilman Rob Norris reported at a recent workshop.
One other concern with the lines to be addressed is the lack of sufficient dirt cover in one specific area: less than three feet covering, which puts the pipes within the frost line. According to the mayor, “It’s just one section. From what I saw on the map is it’s about the width of a lot.”
The other issue needing attention is the significant elevation discrepancy between the roadway and the lots.
“Some of those are going to be seven foot of fill just to get from the ditch to the lot,” according to Public Works Director Sean Glasser.
Brandenburg spoke to the situation, “They’ve got awful deep ditches there. [HDR Engineering’s Heath Turbiville} is dealing with that.”
