The Voice of the Community Since 1909, Serving Moorcroft and Pine Haven, Wyoming

Ice rescue volunteers follow tradition

Sheriff Jeff Hodge commends the 16 Pine Haven volunteers who recently qualified from the open water rescue class hosted by the Crook County Sheriff's Department. Six of the volunteers are now certified for the water rescues as well as vital shore support and ten others specifically for supporting the crew from the shoreline.

"This will have more people at the lake, ready to respond to any kind of incident until we get there if we're not in the area. It ups the county's response time to the lake," Hodge says.

The willingness of these current volunteers matches the disposition shown by municipal first responders in previous years. According to Hodge, "It's been a few years since Pine Haven has, but Sundance has trained with us before because of the Sundance Pond and, I believe, Moorcroft has trained with us before, also, they just haven't done it any time recently."

The Pine Haven Volunteer Fire Department is thus following a tradition of community that has been expressed before in cooperation and preparedness that is a benefit to locals and guests alike.
