Girls
The basketball teams put in some miles this past weekend, says Lady Wolves Coach Matthew Albertson. They were on the road for both Friday’s contest with the Bulldogs from Sundance and the Bison from Buffalo, on Saturday.
“Both of these teams are well coached, and contenders for the state tournament this season. The girls played well on both days despite some sickness that has infiltrated the team, but that did seem to show itself on Saturday as we only had two subs for the game against the Lady Bison,” he says.
According to Albertson, team members are still working on finding their roles, but each game is a little bit better than the last one.
“Ciara Fenner stepped up big this weekend so these repetitions for her are important. As we enter the second round of conference play, it is going to be interesting to see how other teams adjust, as well as the mind set of our girls,” he says.
“It is not easy when the record does not show the true ability of a group, but these girls are growing and doing some pretty amazing things.”
Scores for the games were: Moorcroft - 23, Sundance - 56; Moorcroft - 18, Buffalo - 79.
Boys
The Wolves basketball team faced Sundance and Buffalo last weekend. Despite two losses, Coach Nick Redden believes a lot of learning took place.
“It was a good weekend, we played Sundance. We played a tight game, but when you can’t put it in the bucket, it’s not going to work out very well for us. The kids work hard every game, it’s just one of those things we have to overcome,” Coach Nick Redden says.
“Buffalo is always a perennial powerhouse. It’s nothing but 32 minutes of full court press. We did get a lot of good things out of it.”
The Wolves will face Glenrock this weekend. With a solid week to get ready for them, Redden is excited to see how they will perform on Saturday.
Scores for the games were: Moorcroft - 26, Sundance - 44; Moorcroft - 29, Buffalo - 75.
