Anderson first female wrestler to win Ron-Thon

The Wolves wrestling team had a busy week with a triangular on Tuesday with Lead/Deadwood and Sturgis JV, a dual on Thursday against Wright and the all-class Ron Thon tournament Friday and Saturday, in Riverton.

They won two of the three duals and faced some tough competition at Ron Thon, coming away with one champion and two placers on the varsity side and one champion and some placers on the junior varsity side. Dual scores were:

Moorcroft versus Lead/Deadwood - 48-27

Girls - Moorcroft versus Lead/Deadwood - Rebekah Anderson and Kaylee Buckner both won with a pin.

Moorcroft versus Sturgis JV - 38-39

Girls - Moorcroft versus Sturgis - 6-18

Moorcroft JV versus Sturgis - 42-18

Moorcroft versus Wright - 63-15

Girls - Moorcroft versus Wright- 30-6

Individual results for the Ron Thon tournament: Varsity

Third Place: 113 Dayne Humes pinned his way into the semifinals where he lost by decision to move him into the consolation semifinals. There, he won with a pin in :44 to advance into the placings where he won with a pin in 1:37 to place third.

Fourth Place: 132 Braydnn Terry made his way into the quarterfinals where he won by pin to advance into the semifinals. There, he lost by decision to put him in the consolation semifinals where he won by major decision, 13-4 to put him in the placings. There, he lost by decision to place fourth.

113 Kade Haynes, 2-2; 138 Wyatt Cook went 1-2; 144 Trenton Sheehan, 3-2; Trenten Gray, 1-2; 150- Riley DeHaven, 2-2; 190 Wyatt Allred went 3-2 and was one round out of placing; 215 Oliver Gorsuch, 2-2 and was one round out of placing.

With only nine wrestlers on the varsity side, the team placed 15th out of 44 teams. In individual statistics for the tournament as a whole, Dayne Humes placed second for the most pins in the least amount of time with five pins in 8:06. He also scored the most team points for the Wolves with 26 followed by Braydnn Terry with 19 and Wyatt Allred with 11.

On the JV side of the Ron Thon tournament, individual results were:

Champion: HWT- Elyott Gorsuch went 5-0, winning with two pins and two decisions to take the championship.

Third Place: 132 Shane Hannah, 6-1, pinning his way into the semifinals where he lost by decision to move him into the consolation semifinals. There, he won by decision, 12-5 to move into the placings where he won by decision, 7-3 to place third.

Fourth Place: 144 Jacob Anderson went 8-2, having a great tournament. He lost his first round by decision, 4-6 and wrestled his way back into the consolation semifinals with three pins and two wins by decision. There, he won by decision, 4-2, making it into the placings where he lost to place fourth.

Fifth Place: 157 Truck Lowrey went 5-2, losing in the quarterfinals and coming back to make it into the consolation semifinals where he lost a close match by decision, 7-8 to move him into placing where he won by pin to place fifth.

106 Cayson Phillips went 1-2; Danner Wiseman, 3-2; 120 Weston Haskell, 1-2; 126 Adam Cuthrell, 1-2; Cade Williams went 4-2, winning three of his matches by pin; 144 Walker Allred, 2-2; 165 Marcus James, 1-2; and 175 Spencer Cuthrell, 3-2.

High scorers for the Wolves were Elyott Gorsuch with 28 team points followed by Shane Hannah with 24 and Jacob Anderson with 22 points. As a team, they placed sixth out of 41 teams with 124 points. For the tournament as a whole, Spencer Cuthrell placed third for having the fastest pin in 0:15.

On the girls' side of the Ron Thon tournament, the Wolves took seven girls and, together, they scored 36 points with one champion. Individual results were:

Champion: 110 Rebekah Anderson went 5-0, pinning her way to the semifinals where she won by decision, 2-0 to advance into the finals. There, she won with a pin in 5:26 to take the championship and be awarded the belt. She is the Wolves' first female wrestler to win the Ron Thon championship belt and the third Moorcroft wrestler to win it, after Dylan Humes and Rowdy Pfeil.

105 Daytona Hannah went 2-2, winning both her matches by pin, 110 Olivia Sundstrom went 4-2, making it to consolation round five and one round out of placing; 120 Kaylee Buckner, 1-2; 125 Nadia Harding, 1-2; 130 Tessa Farnsworth, 1-2; and Krizma Delfino went 0-2.

Scorers for the Lady Wolves were Rebekah Anderson with 30 team points and Daytona Hannah with six.

Next up for the Wolves wrestling team is their home dual on Thursday, February 1, against Rapid City Central, starting at 5 p.m., in the high school gym. It will start with JV, followed by the girls and the varsity. It will also be senior recognition night for our seniors and their parents.

Then, on Friday and Saturday, they will travel to Greybull for a dual on Friday night and the Greybull Memorial tournament on Saturday.
