Wolves show their might at home

The Wolves wrestling team hosted their annual Dylan Humes Memorial tournament this past weekend. The gyms were packed and many exciting matches were wrestled all for the chance to win the championship buckle.

With 30 teams invited from Wyoming, North Dakota, Montana and Colorado, they competed in the varsity, junior varsity and girls' divisions.

As a team, on the varsity side, they finished third under first place Sheridan and second place Thunder Basin High School. Individually, they had three in the finals, two champions and a few placers.

Individual placers were:

Champions: Dayne Humes pinned his way through the tournament, making this his third championship and buckle at this tournament. Oliver Gorsuch pinned his way into the finals, where he won by decision, 3-2, to take the championship and his first buckle.

Second Place: Wyatt Allred pinned his way into the semifinals, where he won an exciting match with a defensive pin to advance into the finals. There, he lost a tough match to place second.

Third: Braydnn Terry pinned his way into the semifinals, where he lost a tough, hard-fought match by decision, 4-5, making it into to the consolation semifinals, where he won by pin, to move into the placings. There, he won by decision, 7-2, to place third.

Sixth: Riley DeHaven went 3-3.

Seventh: Trenton Sheehan went 3-2.

Eighth: Marcus James, 2-3 and Braizyn Humpal, 3-3.

Scoring the most team points for the Wolves was Dayne Humes with 32 team points, followed by Oliver Gorsuch with 30 and Wyatt Allred with 24 points.

For the girls' tournament, as a team, they scored 32 points with seven girls, had one champion and one placer.

Champion: Rebekah Anderson went 4-0, pinning her way through the tournament and her finals match, scoring 28 team points. This is her second championship for this tournament and her second buckle.

Third Place: Krizma Delfino went 2-1, winning her last match with a pin.

Coach Seth Farnsworth said of the weekend, "We saw a lot of wrestlers take a strong step forward and that's really encouraging to see, especially at our home tournament. We will look to keep building off the momentum as the season goes on."

Next up for the Wolves is the Lead/Deadwood triangular in Lead, where they will dual Sturgis and Lead on Tuesday, January 23, starting at 4 p.m. Then, on Thursday, they will dual in Wright, at 5 p.m. and from there they will head to Riverton for the Ron Thon tournament on Friday and Saturday.
