Lang recognized for tree donation

Mayor Karla Brandenburg invited her fellow council to step forward to honor guest Linda Lang at last week's meeting of the governing body for the philanthropist's donation of more than 20 trees to be planted around the circumference of the cemetery.

"They were all brought in by a truck and quite a few town people went up there and helped put them in," she said.

As Lang stood with her neighbors, the mayor presented a carved tree created by Councilwoman Suzette Edwards, "out of pine from Pine Haven".

The mayor also noted the lights with which Lang has had two of the trees, one on either side of the gate, decorated for the holidays, saying, "I think the trees are beautiful."

Lang sought to strike a bargain with the governing body: "This year, I bought all the solar and all the lights. I would ask the council to put it on your budget to have them always lit [for the holidays]."

Brandenburg assured her that, after the town ascertains what the cost will be, the subject will be discussed, "when that time comes."
