Town adjusting parking ordinance

Moorcroft has had to crack down in recent years on citizens who do not observe the municipal laws on long term parking on public streets and alleys.

After facing a related problem regarding drivers leaving their vehicles blocking access to private and business drives, Moorcroft Chief of Police Bill Briant noted, “In researching the ordinance, we found that we didn’t have anything to cover that, so we just put that [sentence]in to allow us enforcement if we had to. It is 12-3-01, subsection e – ‘It shall be unlawful for any person to park, leave, place or let stand on any public highway, street or alley within the town any vehicle or if any part of the vehicle extends onto or over a public sidewalk or onto or over the travel lane, public highway, street or alley…’ we added ‘or block or limit access to any private driveway or blocks or limits access to any business.”

With this addition Moorcroft officers may cite individuals who interfere with private or business drives with their vehicles.

The chief said he hopes they do not have to use this added enforcement, but it’s there if they do.
