ARPA funding approved

Infrastructure funding allocated for both Moorcroft and Pine Haven

The State Land and Investment Board (SLIB) has awarded this year’s ARPA funding for capital projects to 18 applicants including Moorcroft’s Powder River Water Main (Phase II) and Pine Haven’s Glenn Vista Sewer Main. Both municipalities have been approved for the full amounts requested of $800,000 and $222,000 respectively.

Moorcroft Mayor Ben Glenn was unavailable for comment, but Pine Haven Mayor Karla Brandenburg spoke about the next step and what this project means to the town, “This is to connect the last six lots on Vista Grand Drive to our sewer line. Our next step will be contacting all the landowners and having a public meeting with them and going over the process… letting them know where we’re going and what we plan on doing.”

Three of these lots have existing homes currently on septic systems and three have not been developed. Brandenburg commented, “I personally thought everyone was on [the town’s sewer].” She was surprised when a buyer of one of the homes asked her if the existing septic tank was sufficient to support a family of four.

After this episode, the mayor and town engineer Heath Turbiville of HDR Engineering travelled each block throughout Pine Haven, “and made sure that there was nobody else in town on a septic tank and those are the last six lots that will finalize our sewer system; I’m fairly confident – if there is, they need to let us know.”

Brandenburg had not foreseen this situation when she was first elected, “No, I didn’t know it was a thing, but the minute I found out that they were not, we started the process.” Apparently, according to the mayor, the last sewer project had this phased, “but somehow, it got dropped and I wasn’t aware of it”.

Addressing the empty lots, she said, “They can’t put septics there, the town doesn’t allow any more septics so this has to go in or those lots are un-buildable.” Brandenburg said that two of the three homes are waiting for this project to reach them, “They’re going to be on city, so they don’t have to worry about it anymore, it’s our problem.”
