The Moorcroft Lady Wolves wrapped up their volleyball season this past weekend as they hosted the 3A Northeast Regional Tournament on their home court. The girls first took the court against the Douglas Bearcats. The Bearcats came out on top, but the Wolves played hard, coming up with 12 kills and four aces.
The Lady Wolves came up against the Newcastle Dogies in the second round of play and had one of their greatest games of the season. Moorcroft pulled out the win against the Dogies with scores of 25-10, 25-20, 21-25 and 25-23, punching their ticket to the next round.
The Wolves had an incredible 48 kills, 27 blocks, 23 digs and nine aces against Newcastle. Senior Natalee Scribner summed it up perfectly, saying, "It's not how big you are, it's how big you play."
Although our girls are young and much smaller than the teams we've been put up against, they played with heart and intensity, which paid off in the end.
The third and final game was against the Wheatland Bulldogs. Although Wheatland pulled ahead for the win, the Lady Wolves put up a good effort. Our girls had 11 kills, six blocks and 24 digs against a tough team. The coach from another team described our girls as "tiny but mighty", commenting on how scrappy and hardworking they are.
The Lady Wolves had a season full of growth, not just in their athletic ability and volleyball skills, but in their character and ability to play as one. Senior Rebekah Anderson described the season as "an amazing experience." She said, "I am so thankful for the coaching staff and all my teammates. I learned a lot and enjoyed volleyball again!"
The Moorcroft Volleyball Team were assisted by numerous supporters. Sponsors purchased new team gear and a new net system, while parents and families followed them all over the state and were the best crowd in any gym.
Local businesses decorated storefronts to show visitors Moorcroft's team spirit. Many times over the course of the weekend, we were complimented on the "culture" that we've built in Moorcroft, and we wouldn't have that if it wasn't for the support of a great community!
