The offer of $1500 for the lot-and-a-half north of the West Texas Trail Museum on North Big Horn Avenue was formally accepted by Moorcroft’s council after a public hearing was closed with no discussion from the floor during the first October meeting of the governing body.
The property was recently appraised at $16,000; however, in answer to the required proof of benefit to the economic development of the town of this decision, Mayor Ben Glenn said, “In my opinion, I do believe it will help the town because it will create a little better museum, a bigger area to bring people in and it may even create another job or two at the museum. It sounds like they’re going to set it up as an outdoor area and maybe even a place to put on shows…chuckwagon feeds, blacksmiths and stuff like that so I see it as a positive for the town… [and] it sounds like an amphitheater if they can get that worked in.”
Councilman Dale Petersen agreed, “I think it’s good for the museum, it’s good for the town. It’s more space for them to expand and do different activities…I can see outside exhibits. I think it’s a great thing.”
