This weekend, the Lady Wolves played in the Rawlins Volleyball Tournament. Varsity started Friday off with games against Lyman, Rawlins and Thermopolis.
Although falling short in their first game against Lyman, the girls played well as a team. In the games against Rawlins, Moorcroft lost the first set, but fought hard to win the second match, 21-17.
Against the Outlaws, the Lady Wolves had an overall of six aces, nine kills and 31 digs. Junior Kiriana Martinez got nine digs and senior Rebekah Anderson had two kills with a helping assist by Sophomore Ciara Fenner.
Varsity took their first win of the season against Thermopolis in two sets with eight assists and two kills from Sophomore Kearza Martinez and five kills and an ace from senior Natalee Scribner.
On Saturday, the girls were in the silver bracket, starting their day off playing against Torrington and, although losing, it was a great game of communication and teamwork. In the final game of the tournament, the girls played Newcastle and made it close to wins with sets going, 22-20 and 21-18. It was a great weekend with lots of improvement made.
On Friday, the Junior Varsity went against Lyman, Rawlins and Thermopolis. In their first game against Lyman, JV was close to a win, ending it with 20-21 both sets. They split sets with Rawlins, winning the first one, 21-14 and losing the second, 15-21.
With their first win of the season, JV defeated Thermopolis in both sets, bringing it to 21-17. Starting Saturday off playing against Lyman in three sets, the Lady Wolves won the first, but ultimately fell to the Tigers in the third and second set, ending their day off with a loss against Douglas. JV showed much improvement over the weekend, bringing some set wins home.
Moorcroft’s Junior High teams also had tournaments in Wright and Newcastle this weekend. seventh grade came out on top and won their tournament.
Coach Gina Dewey said serves and teamwork were their goals and it seems they pulled that off. The eighth grade team split, 2-2 and made it to the championship, but sadly lost to Wright. Coach Amy Rozell said the girls have shown a lot of growth so far this season and she is excited to watch them improve and grow as a team.
Overall, it was a great weekend for Moorcroft Volleyball. Be sure to come out to support the Wolves this week as the Junior High takes on Sundance at home on the 12th and heads to the Stateline Tournament in Sundance on the 15th.
The high school teams will host their first home games of the season on Friday and Saturday against Buffalo and Glenrock. Friday’s games are scheduled for 1, 2 and 3 o’clock. Games on Saturday vs. Glenrock will begin at 11 a.m.
