Girl Scout STEM van coming to town

Girls in the Moorcroft/Pine Haven area who are interested in pursuing knowledge and gaining hands-on experience in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are invited to attend a learning program offered by the Girl Scouts of Montana and Wyoming (GSMW) Friday, September 22, from 5 p.m. until 7, at Robinson Park.

This event is free and open to girls in kindergarten to 12th grade.

The cargo-style van that houses the programming, including 3D printers, microscopes, drones and virtual reality headsets, is called the Mobile STEM Learning Center and is a new acquisition for the GSMW. It was created to open the doors of possibility to girls across 78 communities throughout Montana and Wyoming.

Women in the United States take up more than half the workforce, but less than a quarter of the STEM fields. By gaining a girl's interest early, the program is ensuring a better chance they will continue a path of STEM as a career later.

Montana and Wyoming is around 67% rural, creating another set of hurdles for these students including lack of honor courses, quality curriculum, high level technology business exposure, to name a few.

It is the mission for this Mobile STEM Learning Center to optimize a place for girls to explore and expand their outlooks. For more information and additional tour dates, visit http://www.gsmw.org or contact Briana Rickman at [email protected] or call 406-252-0488.
