Pine Haven has been struggling for a number of months to work with more than 30 homeowners in an effort to bring their properties up to the codes related to the town’s nuisance ordinance. These violations include abandoned vehicles, 20-32; accumulation of solid waste, 20-33; and not mowing, 20-35.
The problem was recently discussed at a council workshop and a list was established of those who would not keep their property clean of garbage and overgrowth. After conferring with Pine Haven’s attorney, Mayor Karla Brandenburg explained the next step in this process: “Letters [will be mailed out] for abandon vehicles, etc. and mowing will be done by town employees for fire safety of the town and a fee charged back to the land owner.”
As council members begin to push forward with bringing these individuals into compliance, one person has already become belligerent and has threatened Brandenburg.
“He [said] he will bring rats to my house,” she said. However, she is undaunted.
