Monday morning started early for Moorcroft police officer Nick Curley as he was called to a street light post in North Big Horn Avenue in front of the post office that had been struck and toppled some time during the preceding night, presumably by a vehicle.
According to Public Works Director Cory Allison, the town does not keep an extra pole on hand. The last fixture they ordered cost approximately $6500 and took about five months to be delivered.
This is the second such incident within the month of July; an unknown individual drove into the east fence at Robinson Park two weeks ago and ran away, leaving the town to pick up that tab as well.
According to Allison, “I [got] a bid on that from Fence Tech for $3885.” The town is responsible for the entire amount if the cost does not reach the insurance deductible of $5000.
He was granted permission from council to fix the damage to the fence if he included another project for which money had already been budgeted to alleviate the trip charge; this project is the access gate to the town’s maintenance shop.
