The Voice of the Community Since 1909, Serving Moorcroft and Pine Haven, Wyoming
Pine Haven’s volunteer fire department manages open fires in the community for the safety of everyone during the dry season and this summer is no different, Chief TJ Gideon is currently issuing fire permits to intown residents.
The permits are granted based on Ordinance six, chapter14, section 14-105, section 14-106, which includes in part, the following criteria:
The pit must be at least ten percent below ground and to be no wider than 30 inches in diameter. The pit should be surrounded with block, rock, ceramic, a steel ring or concrete.
Anything flammable must be at least ten feet away and if the fire holder is free standing, but this radius has only to be twice the diameter of the portable fire pit. The fire must be always attended by a responsible adult until extinguished.
These are a few of the necessary steps to responsible fire maintenance and for more information, residents are welcome to talk to the chief.
Those who want to have open fire pits, etc. in their yards are also asked to request permission a couple days before they plan to make the open fire. “Give us a day or so to get that inspected. We appreciate [their] patience on that,” he says.
