Members of the Rage Baseball team were onsite at the upper baseball field at Moorcroft's Westview Park Saturday, starting the restoration of the diamond.
Bringing in a frontend loader, the ground was scraped back and the previously capped sprinkler heads reinstalled before the new sod is laid.
"This weekend," Rage member Jackie Morgan sad, "We're just trying to get the infield laid out and the bases marked and start on the new dugouts and the new fence. When the sod gets here, we can get that laid."
Morgan expressed her assurance that the entire field will be completely renovated this summer.
"We're hoping to have [a game] in July; it all just depends on where we end up getting the sod in, fixing the outfield and getting the fence done."
The team has been searching for a new home field since irreconcilable differences of opinion ruptured their association with the Campbell County sports authority in Gillette. Moorcroft's governing body and team president Travis Arney came to an agreement at last month's council meeting for a two-year contract allowing the team to call Moorcroft home.
One aspect of this contract is Rage's responsibility to bring the field to play standard and all improvements including electronic score boards and fencing are to remain the property of the town if the team should leave the contract for any reason.
Public Works crewman Dave Elliot was on hand to assist with locating and reestablishing the sprinkler system.
