On Thursday, the Moorcroft High School Golf Team traveled to Worland for the 2A Spring Championships. We knew going into the tournament that we were going to be challenged.
The weather this spring only allowed us to participate in three golf tournaments and weather was, again, going to be an issue on both Thursday and Friday.
Regardless, the team came out and competed. Any time you have constant rain and then wind along with it, there are going to be challenges on all of the holes.
I really thought our kids did well. They didn't complain about the conditions, but worked through the challenges that were presented.
The Moorcroft Boys, consisting of Dane Connally, Cade Williams, Ayden Petz, Carter Hatling and Gatlin McCrea, brought home their third consecutive Powder River Conference 2A Spring Championship Trophy. They knew they wanted to win it again for the third straight year and each one did their part to ensure this happened.
From an individual standpoint, Dane Connally finished with a two-day score of 184 and a 2A placing of ninth. Cade Williams' two-day total was 188, good for tenth.
Ayden Petz's two-day total was 190, good for 12th. Carter Hatling's two day score was 251, which was good for 28th and Gatlin McCrea's two-day total was 290, good for 39th place.
For the girls' division, Camlyn Connally shot a two-day total of 201 which was good for fifth place overall. For the Powder River Conference placing, Dane Connally finished fifth; Cade Williams, sixth; Ayden Petz, seventh; Carter Hatling, 17th; Gatlin McCrea, 26th; and Camlyn Connally, fifth.
Again, I thought we really performed well and although we didn't have as many contests during the spring, it was an enjoyable and successful season.
We lose two seniors, Dane Connally and Camlyn Connally. Both have meant a great deal to the golf program and have definitely played a significant part in the success that we have had over the last four seasons.
