Public Works tackles winter pothole woes

Moorcroft is currently suffering from several potholes with a couple that are deep enough to cause concern from Public Works Director Cory Allison. These fissures and faults are a result of the winter according to the director.

"Because of the weird weather we had this last year, with the ice and a lot of melting...if you get a spot that has a little crack or something and that water gets in there, it just starts breaking it out," he says.

He and his crew have patched between ten and 15 thus far and plan to fill several more in June.

"We're just going to try to hammer them out a little bit at a time," he says, figuring that there are 20 to 30 holes currently needing attention.

"I think," Allison said, "on the next set, we're going to Gillette and getting a load of asphalt and just try to fill them with that."

The crew used "cold patch" on last month's repairs.

"It comes from a place in Casper... we heat it up and fill them with that...," Allison says. "We've actually done a couple big ones with the cold patch and it's done really good... It's just about like asphalt. Neither one of them last real great; the best thing to do is replace the whole thing, but [that's not possible at this time]."
