With strong encouragement from the town council, the Moorcroft Area Chamber of Commerce (MACC) has decided to host another Spring Cleanup Day this year. The event will take place on Thursday, May 11, 9 a.m. until noon.
Elaine Buckmiller, 20-year veteran of Spring Clean up Day, explained that she has been made aware of the types of waste the Moorcroft C&D pit can accept.
"I didn't think we were going to be able to have [clean up day], [but] we've been doing it for 20 years and I really do think it makes a difference to the town," she said, an observation with which council agreed.
MHS Principal Nick Redden has allowed the seventh and eighth grades to join the freshmen, juniors and seniors, which will bring the number of young people involved on the town streets and alleys to approximately 298.
This significantly higher number of students in high-traffic neighborhoods caused the principal to consider liability so, to mitigate the possibility of accident, Buckmiller recently spoke with Moorcroft Police Chief Bill Bryant.
"They'll be out patrolling as far as traffic and things like that," she said.
Since the meeting, Buckmiller has been busy setting the event in motion; actively seeking volunteers, vehicles and trailers to gather the refuse.
When asked to participate, CDS Services chose to continue the volunteer tradition started by Ted Manke with a metal bin along with a repository for used oil and batteries at their facility (formerly Quality Hardware).
Residents are asked to have their garbage at the curb early Thursday morning and are encouraged to set it in place the night before to ensure they are not missed.
Residents are asked to keep in mind that air conditioners, refrigerators and old tires are not allowed and will not be picked up, nor will these items be accepted at the repository.
The C&D pit will be open to the public with Moorcroft water bills from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. and a list of acceptable items are available on the town's website.
Buckmiller is still looking for volunteers, if anyone is interested in volunteering their time, pickups and/or flatbed trailers to help clean up Moorcroft on Thursday, May 11, please contact Elaine Buckmiller at 307-660-4995 or Jodi Clark at 307-660-3312.
