Wolves don't back down

The Wolves Boys basketball had two great contests this past weekend with Newcastle on Friday and Glenrock on Saturday.

The boys JV came out a little slow against Newcastle, but made some gains in the second half, though not enough to pull out the victory. All of this is a learning experience for them and will be all year, but the gains I have seen are amazing.

The varsity boys played four good quarters of basketball and pulled away in the end with a ten point victory. Everyone who got into the game dug deep and contributed to the victory, either on defense or offensive production.

We had a great following at the game, which gave the team that extra support when it was needed in the final minutes.

Glenrock has a nice team this year, with quickness and the ability to make teams turn the ball over. The JV gave them too much of a lead in the first half to be able to fight back, plus too many fouls hurt our chances.

This was the first time in 19 years of coaching that I saw a game end playing three on five, with Moorcroft being on the short end of it. They didn’t back down from the challenge, they never questioned what needed to happen, the team just played. I am very proud of what I see in these young men.

The varsity boys came out and gave Glenrock a 19-point lead by half-time. The Wolves had difficulties getting the ball in the paint and Glenrock’s press gave us some trouble getting into any type of offense.

The second half was a different story. The Wolves were determined to not allow this to get away from them and with around two minutes left in fourth, they were within three points.

Due to fouls, Moorcroft ended up losing by four. This is an amazing group of young men and when they figure out how much they are capable of, they are going to surprise many teams.
