Wrestlers have what it takes

It was really good competition this weekend for the wrestling team. We wrestled three days this weekend in Miles City, MT.

Thursday was a mixer type tournament with the coaches pairing matches for the wrestlers and letting them wrestle. Most of the athletes got one match and some even got two.

We started off the weekend by wrestling Billings West High School and we won the majority of our matches, which is a great feat since Billings West is a Class A school in Montana.

On Friday and Saturday, there were 30 teams from Wyoming, North Dakota, Montana and Nebraska.  Each bracket on the Boys varsity side was a 32 man bracket and, on the female varsity side, there were 16 man brackets.

This is an extremely tough tournament. In each of the 32 man brackets, there were at least 2-3 state champions as well as many state placers.

To place at this tournament is very difficult and we had eight Wolves place. The placers were at the following weights: 103 pound Kade Haynes placed seventh; 114 Rebekah Anderson, second; 113 Dayne Humes, second; 120 Kaden Haynes eighth; 126 Braydnn Terry, sixth; 152 Chris Boardman, first; 170 James Long, fifth; and 182 Wyatt Allred took eighth.

I was really proud of the way our athletes wrestled. They rose up to the level of competition that was presented at the 64th Cowboy Invitational Wrestling Tournament.

There is a certain amount of grit and toughness that you need to have to compete at this tournament and all of the athletes showed that they had what it takes to compete at a high level. I am looking forward to showing our home fans our high level of wrestling this week at the Dylan Humes Memorial tournament.

The Wolves are coming!
