Lady Wolves continue to develop

On Tuesday, the Lady Wolves traveled to Hot Springs, SD for the first round of the West River Tournament. The Wolves faced off against the home team, the Hot Springs Bison.

Moorcroft got off to a slow start in the first half and found themselves down, 32-15 to start the third quarter.

The Wolves fought back and were able to cut the lead to eight midway into the fourth quarter, but that is as close as they came and they ended up losing the game, 51-38. I really thought that our slow start hurt us because we were then expending more energy trying to cut into Hot Springs lead. We needed to do a better job of rebounding and helping on the defensive end.

Friday afternoon, the Wolves took on the Oelrichs Tigers. The Lady Wolves got off to the start they were looking for and found themselves ahead, 28-11 going into the half.

The second half was much of the same with Moorcroft winning, 58-19. I thought the girls did a great job of being ready to play and committing to getting stops on the defensive end.

We talk a lot about how good defense will lead to good offense and that is exactly what transpired. We got great looks with our ball movement and found open shots.

On Saturday, the Lady Wolves took on a familiar opponent, the Bobcats from Upton. We played them the week before so going in, we knew it was going to be a game.

The Lady Wolves jumped out to an 11-8 first quarter lead and took a 29-25 lead into the half. Upton came back in the third quarter and closed the game with a 58-50 victory.

The third quarter was really where they were able to take advantage. We didn’t get the stops that we needed and lost our consistency on the offensive end. We regrouped in the fourth quarter, but just came up short.

Overall, the team likes playing in the West River Tournament. We get to see teams that we normally don’t see with the exception of the last game of the tournament.

We now head into a majority of our conference games and we have things that we need to continue to develop and work on. This is a great group of girls who work extremely hard.

The Lady Wolves head to Newcastle on Friday night and to Glenrock on Saturday. Come out and support your Moorcroft Wolves!
