Lighting up the night

Despite Winter Storm Diaz trying to rain...or rather snow...on our parade, Moorcroft Chamber of Commerce had a great turnout for the Parade of Lights.

With the light poles down Big Horn Avenue decorated and lit up and piles of snow along the parade route, it was a true winter wonderland.

The amount of effort and care put in to each float was evident. Kids' faces lit up with each entry that rolled by.

From the chains that jingled like bells on the Thomas Family Christmas horse team wagon, to the blow-up Santas, the Christmas music that filled the street and the beautiful twinkling lights, downtown Moorcroft resembled a Hallmark movie.

The parade had 14 entries, led by the Thomas Family Christmas and their team of horses and trailed by local businesses. Santa brought up the end of the parade in the Moorcroft Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Truck.

Third place went to Good Electric with their brightly lit digger truck; second place went to Glenn Construction with the Grinch and Santa hauling gifts in the skid loader; first place went to Connally Mowing and Santa driving the tractor.

After the parade, Santa headed to West Texas Trails for cookies and to hear the wishes of children. Over a hundred people piled into the museum to warm up with a cup of hot cocoa and cookies.

We would like to thank everyone who braved the cold and came out to enjoy the festivities; our parade participants for being so flexible with the changing schedule; the Town of Moorcroft, Ben Glenn and James Long for working so diligently to clear the snow from the parade route; Mousse Lodge for hosting a hot cocoa bar; and, West Texas Trails Museum for hosting Santa and providing cookies for all.

It was a great turnout and we're looking forward to next year!
