Pine Haven's 'dump' trailer was stolen Thanksgiving week. According to Mayor Karla Brandenburg, "It was stolen somewhere between Wednesday night and Friday afternoon."
This trailer was used to haul sand in the winter and the town's skid-steer, among other necessities.
On Tuesday, Public Works Director Sunny Schell explained how she came to realize the theft, saying, "I have to go up there every day [and] I noticed the cord...I had to step over it."
The trailer had been plugged into the exterior wall socket, apparently without the thieves' knowledge. When they pulled the trailer the length of the cord, it disengaged and was left stretched across the entrance walkway.
The incident has been reported to the Crook County Sheriff's Office and, though the shop itself is not currently covered by security cameras, other establishments around town are being contacted for their video.
The council will explore options for video coverage for these outbuildings in the future and has already amped up security in other ways.
Brandenburg said of the situation at a meeting on Tuesday morning, "Unfortunately, that's where we're at in today's world."
