Pam Johnson stopped by the Moorcroft Senior Center before traffic began arriving for the food distribution last Thursday, for which she volunteers, to show off a few of her creations.
Johnson sews and embroiders with a craft/sewing machine, creating a plethora of seasonal and day-to-day practical items.
"I've been doing it for about five years," she smiles in reminiscence. "I was looking for a hobby to do in the house, especially during the winter and my boyfriend's mom has been embroidering for over 40 years so she taught me how to sew and embroider. We enjoy doing it together. She taught me how to make my very first quilt and I just loved it."
She and her boyfriend have lived in the Moorcroft area for about seven months, having moved from the west coast after she retired from work in security. "When I first moved here, I joined the Busy Bobbins group at the senior center [and] they've taken me under their wing and are showing me lots of new things."
Johnson attempted to put into words one of her reasons for enjoying this part of the world: "It's very calming; my dogs will lie next to me and a lot of times, I do it at 2 a.m. when the house is quiet and I'm able to just really be creative."
She expressed her joy in the next step of her craft work, creating and selling her table and tea sets as well as her disposable dog bag carriers and coin purses at the Artisan Market.
People are invited to drop by the Moorcroft Senior Center over the next few weeks to see many of her crafts on display from 8 a.m.-3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
