he skirting wrapping the new canopy at Coffee Cup Fuel Stop was ripped from the frame and draped, instead, around the pumps on Monday morning.
The Moorcroft Fire Department was called at approximately 9 a.m., as was the local Department of Transportation and the town police to mitigate traffic around the well-over 200 feet of sharp-edged metal, "to keep people from getting whacked by stuff flying around", according to fire department spokesman and long-time firefighter Fred Devish.
Contractor Ben Glenn of Glenn Construction and members of his crew gathered the long sheets of steel, crushing them and setting concrete barricades on the material until the wind dies down, allowing for safe transport of the waste and reskirting of the canopy. The site was deemed relatively safe by about 10:30 a.m., said Devish.
"There were a few people who were oblivious to everything," Devish noted of the departments' efforts to protect those who kept trying to use the pumps regardless of the emergency vehicles with flashing lights attempting to maintain safety, "But we got enough fire trucks and stuff to kind of keep them from going through where they could get hurt or vehicle damage."
Glenn was unavailable for comment.
