The Voice of the Community Since 1909, Serving Moorcroft and Pine Haven, Wyoming
On October 14, the Moorcroft Area Chamber of Commerce celebrated the citizens of Moorcroft at the 14th Annual Chamber Banquet. Guests participated in a murder mystery dinner set at the Underwood Wine Estates of Devils Tower Country in Wyoming and were guided by Tour Guide Bridget Bourdeaux, brought to life by Cindy Mosteller.
Those suspected of killing Underwood Wine Estates owner Barry Underwood were estate manager and, later discovered, Papa Vito's nephew, Ralph Rottingrape, played by Hugh Jenkins; his wife, Tiny Bubbles, played by Hugh's lovely wife, Alyssa; Otto Von Schapps, a wine merchant, played by Dr. Lucas Kaufman; Underwood Wine Estates neighboring vineyard owner, Hedy Shablee, played by Kelsey Kaufman; Papa Vito Santini, a loyal employee of Underwood Wine Estates, played by Monte Reichenberg; and Marilyn Merlot, a local, turned Hollywood actress, played by Krissy Hinkhouse.
Guests enjoyed a dinner, prepared by Donna's Diner and Coffee Cup Fuel Stop Pizza Hut, while waiting to see who murdered Mr. Underwood. That darn Papa Vito was found guilty and was sent packing straight to prison.
After the prison sentence, the awards for Citizen of the Year, Business of the Year and Lifetime Achievement were presented.
I would like to apologize for not getting the nominees in the paper last week (I ran out of time and that pesky holiday on a Monday had me all messed up). We appreciated all who voted and would like to recognize the nominees at this time.
Citizen of the Year nominees included:
Marge Reed, who has been an asset to Moorcroft for several years and is always willing to help anytime that she can. Keeping Moorcroft beautiful is one of her goals and she is admired for all the hard work she does. She supports the school, the community's clubs and is a great volunteer.
Dr. Lucas Kaufman, who has been eager to get involved in everything "Moorcroft" since his arrival to town. He is friendly and wants only the best for Moorcroft. When you get Lucas, you also get his family; they are great help and always willing to go the extra mile for someone in need.
And finally, our winner of the evening for Citizen of the Year: Krissy Hinkhouse. It was joked that all you need to do is chair Jubilee and you will win Citizen of the Year but, really, Krissy has worked hard at making Moorcroft be all that it can be. Her dedication is remarkable and her willingness to get things done is outstanding. Her vision is admirable.
Business of the Year nominees included:
Moorcroft Senior Center: this team works hard to make sure there are several options available for our seniors in the area. They are always willing to serve those in need and the activities they provide are a success, providing an asset to those who are willing to participate.
Moorcroft Family Dentistry, Dr. Kaufman, his wife, Kelsey and their team make going to this dentist a little more fun than most. Their professional expertise, integrity and compassionate concern for the person on the other end of the drill are most appreciated. Thank you for giving back our SMILE.
Our winner for Business of the Year is Black Anchor Products. Owned and operated by Claude Trigg, with the help of his son Robert, Black Anchor Products has brought a business to Moorcroft that was much needed. Many do not know the generosity of these folks; the firearm that is given away as part of Jubilee is donated 100% by Black Anchor Products. Claude and Shelly have raised their kids in Moorcroft and are proud to be part of such a great community.
The Banquet Committee has the privilege of trying to determine who deserves the Lifetime Achievement Award. It was with that great privilege and honor the committee recognized Raymond and Mary Lou Petersen.
After a little deception on the family's part, Ray and Mary Lou arrived, thinking that their son Dale was being recognized. Needless to say, they were very surprised when their names were announced. Raymond and Mary Lou have been a staple in all things "Moorcroft" for as long as many can remember. They have been business owners, school administrators, served the public on the ambulance service, a great friend and neighbor to all and give with all their hearts. Their hard work and dedication to many in town has not gone unnoticed.
Please help me in saying thank you to all these nominees and congratulate our winners. See you next year!
