Monday night’s council meeting finished within an hour with only two citizens in the audience and the department reports consisting of quick reviews of old business.
Garbage rate increase
A rate increase of $2 for residential dumpsters and commercial was raised by gallon and frequency of pick up. “It gives us a little bit of breathing room,” Allison reported. “Right now, on our commercial rate, we’re losing money.”
The governing body asked the clerk’s office to send out written notification of the change to all businesses affected and the final approval was tabled until October 24.
Hours of operation
Among these accounts were the confirmation of dates and times for the specific operational pits at the landfill and the possibility of rehiring a couple individuals for that feasible 12 hour month (four hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays and the third Saturday of each month).
“All of it has been on hold just because we didn’t know what was going on,” Public Works Director Cory Allison said.
First step complete
At the beginning of spring, Moorcroft’s council met with members of the Robinson Ranch Family Limited Partnership, who own the pasture land to the north, east and south of the grave yard with a plan to expand the cemetery and that land trade closed this week, almost tripling the cemetery property. The next step is the purchase and installation of new fencing.
Changing pace
The third and final reading of the ordinance allowing council to return to one meeting a month, on the second Wednesday, at 7 p.m., beginning in November was approved.
