Moorcroft has received grant funds in the amount of $484,000 from the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) for the construction of the long-anticipated splash pad and the council is now looking at the next step.
The grant is a 50/50 deal so, when the council approved applying for funding, they also approved using a portion of the Specific Purpose Tax endowment for the town’s percentage.
Acknowledging the years townspeople have been waiting for this water feature, according to Clerk/Treasurer Cheryl Schneider, the path the application had to take was long and winding with stops along the way to be examined by other agencies and, while she was assured the approval was at hand, she would not assume facts not in evidence until the funds were “in my hand”.
The next step in realizing this endeavor, Schneider says, is to invite to bid for the dirt work and installation and purchase of desired water piece.
Due to the lateness of the season, this work will not be started until spring.
