The Voice of the Community Since 1909, Serving Moorcroft and Pine Haven, Wyoming
The Moorcroft Senior Center celebrates the art work of long time Crook County resident Donna McAmis this month.
On show at the center are examples of this lady's fine embroidery as well as several illustrations of her love of the outdoors in oil.
Donna learned embroidery from her mother when she was young and now, at 86, still keeps an embroidery basket beside her chair at home to keep her hands busy. Throughout her life working in this medium, Donna has won awards for the embroidery.
This talented lady says she also always wanted to paint so she took lessons from Cindy Klinger in Hulett and started painting on her own in 1977, selling many of her pieces over the years. Donna smiles as she says, "It's just something I enjoy doing so that's what I do."
Before his death five years ago, Donna's husband, Charles helped her with his understanding of animal anatomy, "He was a hunter and he'd always tell me what needed to be done when I asked him about animals. He was my best critic."
Donna admits she doesn't paint as much as she used to, "I've done a lot of it [and] have given all my grandkids and kids pictures."
These pieces will be available for guests' enjoyment for the next month. Anyone interested in the works on display at the center may contact Donna through the center's manager, Mary Jocelyn.
